Flight of the Pelican

Flight of the Pelican

Elkhorn Slough, Moss Landing, California

Pelicans are funny birds. One part of me thinks they are quite ugly looking, especially on land without their mating plumage. But once the take flight they are so very graceful. The mating plumage adds to their charm. Overall, I like these birds quite a bit!

The bird’s feet reminds me of a waddling goose. I don’t see much grace about these birds, but then, I haven’t got the chance of a personal introduction with them yet. ;)

  2. lovely action shot .. captured at the right moment, just about to take off.
The second guy seems to be frowning at you :)
The left of the frame is a bit busy .. but little you could do there ..
Like the composition .. not the usual .. the Bird flying out of the frame ..

If you had some space at the top and bottom ,,you could try perhaps a vertical crop keeping only bird1 and 2.

Btw how happy are you with this lens?

there seems to be a smudge near the top right?

  3. Thanks Sumida, Vikas.
Sumida, I’ll make sure you get introduced to these funky birds.

Vikas, Thanks for your comment. It is indeed very busy. There were tons of birds roosting together. I’ll go see my original and try the vertical crop you suggested/ The lens, I’m very very happy with it. :) Its well worth the moolah.
