Didn’t make it to the falls, but the approx. 10 miles of the hike was a butt kicker – with about 4000ft vertical elevation gain. The next day, walking up and down stairs seemed much harder than the hike itself!

We started the hike at a trail at Del Valle Regional Park in Livermore. Here is the Del Valle Regional Park website link.
Our last day in Merida, I was walking along the Paseo de Montejo. I decided to eat some honey-dew flavored ice cream (which by the way was awesome) at a local ice cream parlor on the street. The street was lined with stores on the pavement selling different kinds of art – paintings, pottery, sketches, sculptures, photographs. Enjoying an ice cream looking at a city go about its leisurely business was very pleasant.

Walking back to the hotel, I saw these buildings which looked like they were starting to go under renovation. The way the buildings looked in the mid-day sun reminded me of the painting: pastel colors and beautiful rough textures.

In December we spent a few days in Mexico. We landed in Cancun and drove directly to Mérida – The White City. On Christmas Eve, we were walking around

More about the Cathedral: The Cathedral of San Ildefonso is the oldest in Mexico, completed in 1598. It was built over an ancient Mayan temple – the stones used to build this cathedral also came from that temple. More information about the Catedral de San Ildefonso

Even though it was early afternoon, and the sun was high, there were tons of things to photograph. Especially in infrared.

In this particular photograph, the foreground is actually a canal – I loved how the water turned black. The grass white and the trees lighter. With infrared, everything looks so familiar, yet so strange. It makes one look deeper into the photograph – at least I think so. Very soon, I’ll come up with my version of processing for infrared in Lightroom.

The Big Cypress Natural Preserve is but one big swamp – more than 2,400 square miles. As its name suggests, it is about 1/3rd covered with cypress trees. The cypress trees are mostly found on the edge of the wet prairies where the water is very slowly draining into the ocean. This photograph shows one such stand of cypress trees. This was shot from the side of the Tamiami trail. These stands of cypress trees against a glorious sky. What a place!
