This photograph was taken during the “Utah’s Golden Circle” workshop/field seminar with Rick Knepp during October 2010. We were photographing at the Sunrise Point during sunset. This chipmunk was stealing attention from the canyon itself. All the tourists were enamored by the chipmunk scampering about and leaping from branch to branch of this bush.

Elkhorn slough, about 10 miles north of Monterey is an amazing place for wildlife. Over the weekend, I was on a boat tour run by Captain Yohn. A bunch of photographer buddies from the FM_NorCal group had booked two tours on the pontoon boat, each of us paying for 2 seats – one for us, one for our equipment.
This was my second time at Elkhorn. From last time, I was pleased to obtain a few images of pelicans and other birds. The goal this time was to concentrate on Sea Otters. But it was not to be…I indeed got a few nice pictures of sea otters, which I have posted a couple of times before, and more of which are coming. But the star of this trip, for me were the sea lions. This here, is a photo of the big guy snoozing in a very cool pose..Note the big huge neck.

From Wikipedia: “Turkeys are surprisingly agile fliers and very cunning, unlike their domestic counterparts. In flight they can reach a speed of 50 miles per hour (80 km/h). They usually fly close to the ground for no more than a quarter mile (400 m). Turkeys have many vocalizations: “gobbles,” “clucks,” “putts,” “purrs,” “yelps,” “cutts,” “cackles,” and “kee-kees.” In early spring, male turkeys, also called gobblers or toms, gobble to announce their presence to females and competing males. The gobble can carry for up to a mile. Males also emit a low-pitched drumming sound. Hens “yelp” to let gobblers know their location. Gobblers often yelp in the manner of females, and hens can gobble, though they rarely do so. Immature males, called jakes, yelp often.”
